Dr. Jagmit Arneja was born in India and initiated her medical studies in India, received her MBBS degree in 1969 and her post-graduate internship in 1970. She immigrated to Winnipeg in 1970. She completed her rotating internship in Winnipeg in 1971 at St. Boniface General Hospital and Health Sciences Centre followed by the completion of her residency and Fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1976 (FRCSC).

She joined St. Boniface Clinic in 1977 and became a Lecturer in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Manitoba and she was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1997. She managed a very busy obstetrics and gynecology practice until 1999, when she directed and focused her practice to gynecology.

Her practice has included working and operating at St. Boniface General Hospital, Victoria General Hospital, and Women’s Hospital. She was instrumental in starting Laparoscopic Assisted Hysterectomies at Victoria General Hospital and she has been actively involved in teaching medical students, residents, fellows and her colleagues throughout her career.

Dr. Jagmit Arneja has served as the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology between 1996-1998 at Victoria General Hospital. She is a member of several Standards Committees in Gynecology including WRHA, Victoria General Hospital, and St. Boniface General Hospital. She is a member of Adverse Patient Outcomes (APO) Committee, Department of Surgery, Victoria General Hospital. She has also served as a member of the Canadian Obstetrics and Gynecology Committee to establish the national Clinical Practice Guidelines for hysterectomy.

Brief Personal Information:

Apart from her professional contributions and achievements, she is a dedicated wife and mother. She has been married for 40 years and together with her husband, Amarjit, raised two sons who have also become accomplished physicians, both practicing at the University of British Columbia. Her other interests include travelling, cooking, golfing, table tennis and spending time with her family. She was a High School National Champion in India in table tennis and has won several tournaments in her flight in golf at her club championships. She is a very loving, caring and dedicated physician, wife, mother and grandmother of 2 and we are honoured to be a part of her life.
